IR Invisi-Plate – Passes The Test!
One of the most frequently asked questions we receive from customers about our IR Invisi Plate is how well does it work.Yes, it does work, and there is a simple way that you can test it yourself if you have a proper IR camera.
Testing the IR Invisi-Plate – What You Need to Conduct the Test:
1: A consumer-level still camera or video camera that has “night-shot” or “infrared mode”, or USB computer CCTV camera with infrared (low cost ones are available on eBay or from other online sellers). If it has a setting for “night shot,” the image will appear green (just like the photo on the right). A Sony Handycam in night shot mode works well and allows HD image capture.
Note: some cameras have “night” mode, but still only shoot in the visible light spectrum by doing a long shutter to get the proper exposure and normal colored photographs or video. These types of recording devices will not work for this test.
2: An IR-Pass filter (aka IR filter), large enough to cover the entire lens of the camera. We use 840 nm to 930 nm filters for testing because they work best.
a) Place the IR Invisi-Plate over your car’s number plate.
b) Place your camera in IR Mode. Almost all consumer-level still photo and video cameras shoot in a combination of visible and IR light. Therefore, just testing the cover with the camera in IR mode will not likely work.
c) This is where the IR filter comes in. It blocks out all light except for the IR wavelength it is designed to pass. Place the IR filter over the camera lens.
d) View the IR Invisi-Plate from slight angles (side and overhead) and watch how the plate numbers disappear!
Just like magic! Your eyes see the plate numbers, but the IR traffic cameras are blocked!
